Denim: Curvy Figure

Strutting down the lower figure & hourglass runway:

Angled yokes, ensure that the denim contours to your shapely seat.

Clean, dark, and sharp, no need for messy whiskering, or distressing through the thighs, your curves can speak for themselves.

Proportioned pockets, too little and you'll be making an unfair comparison.

A classic dark wash will minimize your lower assets.

Flares, bootcuts, trousers, a wide leg opening will balance your hip line.

1 hundred 98 cents = your own denim fashion look book cheat sheet.

Procure your own empire constitution. Your personalized fashion look book can include your own rules of denim conduct and much more.

  1. Any tips on finding these style of jeans that aren't over $100? I've been searching everywhere for some trouser type jeans for my very pear shaped figure.

  2. Kammy, I'm a pear as well and to make it even more fun I have extremely muscular calves, so I have to have flair or a wide boot cut. The "Dreamer" jeans from Old Navy fit me really well; runs abt $35 regular price and goes on sale for $20 occasionally.
I'd check those out if you haven't already done so; my figure can't wear any other cut of current Old Navy blue jeans, not even the other boot cut jeans they offer, but those seem to be made for pearish people.

  3. I like the look of almost all the jeans you show, Reachel, but I have one concern. As someone wearing a pair of Joe's this moment, I don't like the "stretch" factor. The ones I've got on fit perfectly when I first got them, but within a month, the bum became more than a touch saggy.

It's not a problem exclusive to Joe's. Any denim I've bought that is a Spandex blend has this issue. So, where to go for non-stretch jeans? Help, please!

When it comes to jeans for a lower figure, I recommend trying on at least half a dozen pairs', finding one that you really love, and waiting for it to go on sale. Nordstrom Rack has a large selection of denim, if you're careful you can find authentic pairs discounted significantly on eBay, and second hand stores are also a good place to look. That being said here are a few pairs that start out at a lower price tag:

When buying a pair of jeans make sure you inspect the tag for fabric content. Look specifically for the amount of stretch included in the fabric. The stretch comes with different labels: spandex, elastane, polyurethane, lycra. A common percentage is 2%. Also note how heavy the denim is. The thinner the material, the more stretch you'll observe.

When you wash stretch denim it should have a certain level of rebound meaning it will shrink back towards its original proportions. You'll still retain some degree of the stretching, which ensures that the jeans are stretched to the custom proportions of your figure.

If the denim is 100% cotton it will still stretch with wear, but there isn't any rebound. If the fabric isn't prewashed, it will also shrink in the wash during its initial cycle.

In short, if stretch jeans fit perfectly when you put them on, opt for a size down. The smaller size will fit like the larger size by the end of your first wear. And the stretch ensures it will fit custom to your body. This is true for Joe Jeans, AG jeans, and any other stretch jeans.

  6. Levi's 529's fit a curvy figure (I love them) and are relatively inexpensive.
My question is...This fall I want to wear straight legged jeans tucked into boots. I love that look. But does it love me?
I am a tall 'statuesque' I've been told, lower figure woman. Would an accessory like boots work as well as flares or bootlegs to draw attention away from the hips?

  7. I really like the jeans in the second picture, but the link takes me to the jeans in the third picture. Is it just me and my computer? would you mind disclosing the brand and name of those jeans in the second pic? Thanks!

  8. Thank you so much for all the ideas! I appreciate your personal responses. My one and only pair of jeans I have right now are curvy Levi's, and I don't even have to use a belt! I'm going to go to Nordstrom and try on some of those suggested, and also hit up Nordstrom Rack! Thanks for the support, Reachel! (I don't know what's wrong, but the links from your comment won't work for me.) And I'm going to give Old Navy another try and check out the dreamer jeans. Thanks Ladies!

The links to denim under $100 that were previously broken should now be active. Sorry about that.

  10. Jill,
The jeans in the second picture are 7 for All Mankind Ginger Wide Leg, Mercer Wash. And the link is now directed right to them. Thanks for the heads up.

  11. Lynnae,
Boots are actually a great way to balance a lower figure. When added to skinny jeans, the weight of this sturdy shoe brings them right into proportion against the hips.

  14. Thanks for your ideas on how to dress the curvy figure in denim jeans. I can't wait to find them and then try them on! Where do you suggest I start looking? I live near saxs 5th Ave. I live in Tucson so I'm not far from Phoenix.

  15. lazydazy,
Nordstrom is a good place to start, they carry many different cuts and brands of denim. Once you find your favorite fits, you can even try to find something similar for less at the rack.
