Tasteful Trend: How to Wear Midi Skirts

1) Fabric
To avoid a visual covenant to sister-wifery, select a material prone to movement: silk, chiffon, polyester, rayon.  Matronly, prim, and thick can all be avoided with one slinky swish.

2) Construction
Calf-skimming skirts come in many different flavors, and some of them look like oyster ice cream tastes.  Straight and shapeless cuts are bland at best.  Tapered tulips with puffy front pleats, and row of buttons from waist to hem, could induce ocular nausea.

Your most savory option is a slightly flared, a-line silhouette.   Sprouting thin accordion or wide box pleats from a well-built waistline (create one with a belt if necessary) creates flattering optical interest.

Wiggle skirts (the pencil skirt's longer length cousin) makes fast friends with the narrow waisted hourglasses and moderate lower figures but care should be taken to ensure the relationship isn't constructed of thin or revealing fibers.

3) Length
Draw a line and draw the eye.  Your tea-length skirt should end at a narrowing point on your leg, directly below the knee or promptly under the calf are ideal.  Avoid skirts that end half-way down the shin at the meatiest part of your calf.

Also pay attention to the rise of the skirt, valuable inches are an unavoidable casualty of a mid-length skirt, resuscitate the stretch of your stature with a higher rise waist.

5) Tops
Your blouse must be the accommodating balance in your ensemble equation.  Your skirt is equal parts long, loose, and feminine, like a ballerina on break.  Your blouse, by contrast, must be fitted, visually concise, and slightly masculine, a highly refined, yet slightly rebellious lumberjack.  If in doubt, tuck your top and crop your cardigan.

4) Accessories
Midi-skirt's besties are a mid to skinny width belt and heels. Belts can reinforce the waistline while lofty loafers can recover inches
 removed in your skirt selection.

Tuck the oxford into the skirt and allows its rugged pattern to peak above the collar of your fitted pullover.  Break the body into visually-pleasing thirds by placing the belt over the sweater at your natural waist.

Blouse your floating clouds into a belt-enforced waistline.  Then perceptibly prolong your pedials with menswear-inspired, wingtip tweed heels.

Add churlish charm to your ensemble's character by layering a cropped motorcycle jacket above your pussy-bow blouse and spatted boots below.
