What Goes With This? Giveaway

Miss Miranda wrote:

"My only brother's wedding is coming up in mid-August and I have been on the hunt for something to wear. I fell in love with this tapestry inspired skirt but haven't the slightest idea what to pair it with. Do you have any suggestions? I am a 5' 4" lower figure and am completely at the will of your fashion expertise."

And I thought to my self, "Self, people need to know what goes with what they already have and love?"  and then self said, "I've told you to do this at least a dozen times.  But go ahead listen to Miranda, why pay attention to me?"  Then self and I made up and we awarded Miranda our first winner of the first ever Cardigan Empire, What Goes With This contest:

Here is her prize:

Gigham & Metallic
Blu Bijoux, Apt. 9, Ann Taylor, Adrienne Vittadini
Gingham keeps the look from straying to fussy while metallics keep it from falling into casual. Its a balanced juxtaposition.

Color Blocked
Blu Bijoux, Miz Mooz, K. Amato, Anthropologie
Bold colors equal fresh interpretation.  And each of these pieces could be easily remixed into an everyday wardrobe.

Tribal Glamour
Carlos by Carlos Santana, Old Navy, Topshop
When mixing and matching patterns, choose one dominant pattern and accent with simpler patterns.  In this ensemble we let the floral shine while the stripes and small animal print support.

And then we gave her alternatives...

  1. I just bought these boots. I love them, and will definitely wear them with jeans. I would like to wear them with skirts or dresses too, but I don't know how to pull a look like that together. I tend to wear the same things over and over- this would really help me branch out!

  2. Interesting ideas but few if any of the shirts pictured look suitable to wear to a wedding. I think a white top would look best. Maybe a fitted lace button up shirt with a white camisole under. Or a victorian blouse with hooks and eyes instead of buttons.

  3. Lynna,

I had assumed a more casual wedding setting based on the skirt selected, but I can see your point. Perhaps something like this or this. But tell me what I can outfit for you dear! I would love to dress a fellow Jane Austen lover.

  4. I would love to know how to style this top

I am a middle figure, and nursing (so bigger on top). I have only worn it with skinny jeans, but need to make it work appropriate. Belting doesn't really work with my post partum soft center. I am actually not even sure if it is the right top for me, I just love the print!
I am an elem teacher if that helps with styling, nothing too tight or short. :)And washable

  5. I bought this dress around Christmas -my husband was in love!- and haven't been able to style it quite to my liking! I have to have my shoulders covered (religious reasons) but I don't want to ruin the lovely silhouette with a frumpy cardigan! Please help! Both my husband and I would be very grateful!

  6. Oh my goodness I have the perfect question! There's a lovely pair of shoes that stares at me every morning from the closet but I haven't figured out how to pull them off. I can't find a link on the internet so I'll send you an email right now.

  7. Grandma has a cute new skirt from the Limited. It is called Plainweave Contour Waist Skirt. It is your basic black pencil skirt. I want some color and nothing fitted to dress it up for church or a night out. What do you suggest.
