Creative Ensembles: Yin & Yang

How to apply the Taoist philosophy to fashion and harvest unexpected styling bliss.

Yin
Yang

Yin
Yang
Ingenue, feminine influences
Dramatic, masculine influences
Lighter, closer value contrasts.  Softly grayed intensities and pastels
Darker, strong value contrasts.  Bright, intensified.
Pliable, smooth, fine, lightweight. Yields to external forces.
Firm, rich, rough, heavy.  Holds its own shape.
Many details, delicate, ornate.
Few details, strong, architectural
Curved, rounded, broken or interrupted lines
Straight, angular, restrained curves, long unbroken lines

While yin is delicately sweet and yang is sharply spicy, together they are ambrosial.

Mens jackets-with lady collars, ruffled blouses with leather cummerbunds, tissue underpinnings and industrial cuffs.  Neither syrupy nor severe.  Perfect parity.

Miss Paula: Trend Refresher
"To update my wardrobe with a few new pieces and know how to wear some of the new trends! I just got my braces off so the Crest thing would be great-- my teeth need the pick me up!"

Megan-Before
Even more adorable in person

Miss Megan: Motherly Distraction
"Being a mom of three, my shopping that are intended to find myself something suitable usually end with frustration on my part and an outfit for the kids.  Everything looks good on the kids.  My fall makeover style goal is to find a stylish, comfortable, maintainable style that works with my current body that is very different then it was just years ago."

Miss Jill: Birthday Bias
"I would like to look feminine and fashionably warm. Not surprisingly sweatshirt hoodies and my mom's cast off jeans are not helping me achieve my goal.
P.P.S. May I mention that Nov. 2 is my birthday? In case that sways you towards choosing me...

Fall Makeovers: After I

Part I: Results
2 days of styling + 5 lovely ladies

Emily-Before
29 weeks of radiance

Miss Emily: Pregnancy Polish
"I am pregnant and I am feeling all out of sorts. I am also 21 and going through a weird transition where I still dress like a teenager but I really would like to dress... more polished and sexy but I am not sure how."

Emily-After

Accentuating Mister bump with a handkerchief hem

Kendra-Before
Complete with Baby #4

Miss Kendra: Post Partum Reboot
"Learn how to dress my post-baby curves.  After baby #4 I'm curvier than I've ever been, and those curves aren't going away any too fast.  Since this isn't the body-type I grew up with, I feel like I don't know how to dress it in a style that flatters what I've got to work with now."

Kendra-After
