Fall Shoesies: Lower Figure

On to the next garden variety bottom line of the Lower Figure. While the stems of a lower figure may not belong to the most slender division, these pedials can definitely compete in the most shapely category. And they deserve an equally shapely Fall recommendation: Conicals & Commas.

Conical and comma heels accomplish two tasks for a lower figure. First, they have the visual clout to match a lower figure's strong stems. Second, they have the contours to compare to the curves of a lower figure's thighs, knees, and calves. As our Lower Figure selects a proper shoe, she should pause before strapping anything around her ankle, or in any way reducing the line of her leg-line by even a fraction of an inch. The stereotypically shorter stems of a lower figure must strive for uninterrupted streaks from calf to ankle.

  1. I heart me a Wedge!!! Can a lower figure ever wear them and not look blocky?

  2. Absolutely, shoe suggestions are not mutually exclusive to a single body type.

The lower figure just needs to aim her eye on wedges with a acutely angled heel. With this is mind, she is ready to stride.

  4. I had a cute T strap shoe, yet every time I went to try it with an outfit I would end up kicking it off and grabbing another shoe at the last minute. Now I know why! I need that extra inch or two of leg!

  5. I will admit to owning a couple pairs of (what I thought was) adorable shoes with a thin ankle strap. I now understand this lower figure shouldn't wear them. But, can I wear any buckled sandals at all??

  6. Meredith, you don't need to toss out all your ankle strap-ers, just pair them with trousers. If you do want to wear them with skirts, make sure they hit at or above the knee. And try a pencil over an a-line. They'll add more length to your figure.

  7. Oh Reachel, I couldn't wear a pencil skirt if you paid me a gazillion dollars! It is all kinds of wrong on me. I just discovered that a purple silk embroidered skirt that I got at Neiman Marcus Last Chance 8 years ago is the perfect a-line skirt for this lower figure gal. I wore it to church a couple weeks ago and more than one person told me I looked fantastic - that I must have lost a few lbs. Truth be told I had gained about 5. I want to clone this skirt about 17 times now. I am going to make a pattern from it for me and plan to get busy. I will save my ankle straps for trousers. Now I must do some shoe shopping...

  9. I am kind of a funny lower figure - that's definitely what I am, but I have long, not very shapely legs. My lower figure appears to be all concentrated in the trunk area, of "junk-in-the-" fame!
