Meet Nina, the excessively funny, California chic, surprisingly frugal, undeniably gorgeous host of MommaGoRound.
Who decided what was "supposed" to be beautiful? What committee met to decide what the definition of beautiful was?
I never felt like I met the beauty requirements. For years I struggled with accepting myself. It's so easy to beat yourself down if you don't look exactly like what is "supposed" to be beautiful.

I own and wear pants in all these sizes
I have thunder thighs, stretch marks, scars, acne like a teenager, and thought I was the palest person on Earth until I met my son (the reincarnation of Casper himself),
AND I LOVE ME!
AND I LOVE ME!
Beauty can't be measured by a scale or the number inside your skirt. The beauty committee will not show up at your house to put a big sparkly pretty sticker on your back if you fall within a statistic.
Real beauty is the confidence that comes with knowing that you are the only you, embracing that unique you, and sharing you with the world.
A few months ago I decided to stop comparing myself to what I was "supposed" to be, and just decided to be me, and I found my real beauty.
Let me tell you, it's one of the
most freeing things you can do!

Whatever it is
that makes you feel beautiful, jeans and a tee, a fancy dress, being covered in sand with your kiddos, simply not putting your hair in a ponytail that day...
DO IT!
You are worth feeling beautiful
because you are,
no matter what pretty committee says!

Before I even read the article I saw the first picture and thought to myself "What a beautiful woman!" Beauty is being comfortable with you and your body and accepting who you are inside and out. I wish more women in the world understood this!
ReplyDeleteI love Nina! She is gorgeous and confident and super sweet. Such a good example.

I LOVE Nina! Nina, seriously I wish we could be real life friends. You are so inspiring when it comes to fashion and body sense. You are so real and genuine, and sweet. Thanks for being such an encouragement to women of all shapes and sizes. Its not easy to be a bigger woman and still love yourself, body, looks with all the media saying only "this size" and "this look" is beautiful... youre right.. WHO says.. what committee gets to say whats beautiful and whats not! We need to stand up and say We ARE beautiful. Confidence is definitely sexy! I know that... now if only I could keep reminding myself of that every day! :) You are wonderful, thanks for sharing this amazing post! :)
ReplyDeleteLove this! Thanks for this wonderful reminder. I have struggled so much with my body and self-image since having my twins three years ago, and I'm finally getting to the point that I can love my body, saggy tummy and all! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm visiting because I love Nina! This post is one of the many reasons why. Perfectly said! Perfectly honest! Way to go Nina!!

Dang, girl! You tell it! I wish I 'knew you' in person, because you seem like the most genuine person. And I need to read this post on a bad day...because you certainly nailed it. Girls should be raised w/ this drilled into their heads!
ReplyDeleteAww, I love this post. So real and so honest. It's refreshing to have a fashion blogger who is 5'3, a size 0, and frequently proclaims that she has to "put effort into GAINING weight". Gah! Totally unrelatable for me. Love her blog. :)
ReplyDeleteNina, you are an inspiration! I struggle with my beauty a lot, especially lately, but I promise to start looking at who I am instead of who I think I should be!
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Nina....you are such an inspiration! Thanks for sharing
ReplyDelete:) beautiful reminder of how we should all feel--even if we don't feel so great about ourselves at times. Thanks Nina!!
ReplyDeleteWow! This hits home. Just the other day I wanted to wear a scarf in my hair but took it out in fear of what others might think. Seriously? A scarf? Horrible I know!!! No more! Thanks for writing such an inspirational message. Keep it up girl.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing post. Nina is beautoful in all ways. I'm off to visit her blog too. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteoops type- o in the comment above..sorry. Happily following your lovely blog
ReplyDeleteI have been following Nina's blog for just a few weeks and have found her fashion sense inspiring. I have even tried a few of the tips she has posted and to my delight I liked the way I looked. I love that she is so comfortable with her body and am finding I am getting more comfortable with mine. Thanks Nina!
ReplyDeleteAmazing and inspiring post. I love it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful inside and out for sure!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely. I feel inspired. Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis blog post speaks to my heart...I think and have always though Nina is a beautiful woman and amazing for putting herself out there for the world to see and possibly criticize. Real beauty is inside one's heart....not the skirt size and Nina really embodies that. She is not afraid to go outside of her comfort zone, try on some fantastic tights and laugh at the world! :) She has given me courage to find the beauty in me....inside this three hundred pound body.....it's there...it's just not got the sparkly sticker on it!
